Concert series at The Botanic Garden at OSU begins May 12

Tuesday, May 9, 2017

If you enjoy the natural beauty of a lush garden and the sounds of great music, make plans now to attend the Concert in the Garden series at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University.

Folk artists Monica Taylor and Friends will kick off the series May 12 beginning at 5:45 p.m. on the Event Lawn at The Botanic Garden at OSU. Grab your lawn chairs or blanket, bring a picnic supper and come out and enjoy an evening of great music.

Laura Payne, volunteer coordinator at the garden, said this concert just happens to take place on National Public Gardens Day, so there is no better time to come out and enjoy one of Stillwater’s best attractions.

“We’ve been doing the concert series for several years and it continues to gain popularity,” Payne said. “Not only will people be treated to some wonderful music, they’ll be surrounded with the beauty of The Botanic Garden at OSU. We’re really excited our first concert of the series takes place on National Public Gardens Day, which occurs annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day. It’s a day to promote awareness of botanic gardens, arboreta, zoos, historic gardens or any public gardens, and the educational resources public gardens provide to local communities.”

The second concert in the series will feature Steelwind on June 2. Come out and enjoy an evening of Okie Bluegrass music. The last concert in the series will be Beacon Drive. Slated June 9, Beacon Drive will perform your favorite classic rock songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. All concerts take place from 5:45 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

“This is a fun and relaxing way to kick off your weekend and people of all ages are encouraged to come out and spend a couple of hours at The Botanic Garden at OSU,” she said. “The concert series is just one of the many different events we host at the garden to encourage the public to come experience the beauty of the area. It’s also a great way to connect the community to OSU.”

The concert series would not be possible without the generous support of Stillwater businesses, including Hideaway Pizza, Kicker, Flourishes Flowers Décor and More and Daddy O’s Music, as well as, the OSU Office of the President and the Arts and Humanities Council of Stillwater.

“All of the concerts in the series are free, but donations are greatly appreciated to help us continue to offer fun and entertaining opportunities at The Botanic Garden at OSU,” Payne said.

The Botanic Garden at OSU is located west of Stillwater on the north side of Highway 51.
