CASNR gears up for annual celebration

Oklahoma State University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources students and faculty are gearing up for CASNR Week, an annual weeklong celebration starting March 26.
STILLWATER, Okla., March 14, 2018 – Oklahoma State University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources students and faculty are gearing up for CASNR Week, an annual weeklong celebration starting March 26.
CASNR Week is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse group of people who make up the CASNR family, said Cynda Clary, associate dean of academic programs for the college.
The week’s festivities will begin with the CASNR Sign Competition on Monday. Club members create large signs to represent the purpose of their student organizations. The signs will be on display in front of Agricultural Hall the entire week for students, staff, faculty and community members to see.
CASNR Student Council members, with the support of the CASNR Alumni Board, will prepare around 1,500 burgers for Monday’s CASNR Week Cookout. CASNR students, faculty and staff are welcome to pick up a free burger, chips and a drink starting at 11:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, during CASNR Day on the Lawn, CASNR student organizations will set up booths on the OSU International Mall lawn to share what their organizations are about with fellow OSU students.
“This event is a way to showcase what we do to students throughout the university,”
said Sierra Bryant, CASNR student spokesperson and OSU agricultural education junior.
The CASNR Scholarships and Awards Banquet on Thursday evening will recognize CASNR
scholarship recipients and other outstanding students. Select faculty and staff also
will be recognized.
“We are fortunate to have many high achieving students in the CASNR,” Clary said.
“It
is an honor and a privilege to award scholarships to help fund their college experience.
These
scholarships would not be possible without the generous support from our CASNR alumni
and friends, and we truly appreciate their continued support of the college and our
outstanding students.”
Clary said she enjoys this event because “scholarships mean so much to students.”
She said she sees it as a celebration as students are recognized for their hard work.
Two new community outreach additions, First Grade Ag Fest and Read with CASNR, are set to take place along with the annually celebrated events.
First-graders from Stillwater Public Schools are invited to attend the First Grade Ag Fest on Tuesday. CASNR club members will give interactive presentations to the students so they can learn more about agriculture and CASNR.
On Friday, CASNR Student Council members will read the American Farm Bureau Foundation 2018 Book of the Year, “John Deer That’s Who,” to pre-K students from Stillwater Public Schools for Read with CASNR. The book addresses agricultural literacy issues and includes questions at the end that council members plan to discuss with the students.
“My favorite part about planning CASNR Week has been creating these new events that reach out to elementary age students in Stillwater and getting these young minds interested in agriculture,” Bryant said.
Other events slated for the week include the Freshmen in Transition Spring Blood Drive and the CASNR Recent Alumni Panel.
The CASNR Freshmen In Transition student organization will be hosting the blood drive.
The blood drive will be on Tuesday and is open to the public starting at 11 a.m.
CASNR Career Services will host the CASNR Recent Alumni Panel on Tuesday evening. CASNR graduates from the past five to 10 years will share their experiences working in the agricultural industry.
