OSU students to sell horses at A Bar Ranch Cowhorse Classic Sale
Tuesday, May 15, 2018
Students in the OSU Equine Sales and Marketing class are selling a select group of horses at the 2018 A Bar Ranch Cowhorse Classic Sale. These two-year-old OSU born, raised, and trained geldings and fillies have been started under the leadership of student trainers with instructor guidance.
“Many students in our equine program have an interest in training, marketing, and sale fitting techniques,” said Natalie Baker, OSU equine herd manager, “so preparing our horses for the sale at the end of the semester is the perfect avenue to teach them how to produce a quality prospect.”
Each two-year-old gelding and filly had 45 rides in various environments, including the OSU Dairy, rodeo team arena, and the trails of Lake Carl Blackwell. The student trainers spent 60 days and over 120 hours starting their horses with a solid foundation on the ground and under saddle, ensuring they are ready to excel on the ranch or in the performance pen.
“The sale is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work and dedication to their horses throughout the spring Equine Sales and Marketing course,” said Baker. “We are blessed by the Armitage family, who are OSU alumni and donors, for allowing us to learn about their production operations, tour the ranch, and consign our offspring in their annual public auction.”
The industry support the students received from many companies helped them achieve their goals. Sponsors include Zoetis, ADM Animal Nutrition, Central Saddle and Tack, Kimes Ranch, Stillwater Milling Company, and Cactus Ropes.
These horses show great athletic potential and are ready for the ranch or the arena. The A Bar Ranch Cowhorse Classic Sale will be held on June 16th, 2018, at 1p.m. in Claremore, OK.
