Reid Finch - Student Spotlight

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Meet Reid Finch, a junior majoring in animal science with a degree option in pre-vet from Sunnyvale, Texas. Finch did not have much agricultural experience growing up, but decided to show livestock in high school. When it came time to pick a university, Finch chose Oklahoma State University because of its excellent reputation.

“I decided to come here because I heard it was one of the best animal science programs in the country, and it would prepare me as a well-rounded student for my interest in the vet school,” said Finch.

Not having an agricultural background, Finch wanted to get hands-on experience with livestock. He applied at the OSU Purebred Beef Center and became a student employee. Over the past two years, he has gained a lot of experience working with cattle.

Finch has also been very active in student organizations. He has served as an officer for the Oklahoma Collegiate Cattlemen’s Association, been a Student Academic Mentor (SAM) for Freshman in Transition (FIT), and is a member of the Animal Science Leadership Alliance (ASLA).

Finch chose the pre-vet degree option because it would best prepare him for vet school. After graduation, he wants to earn his DVM at the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. His ultimate career goal is to own a vet practice where he can help people by healing their animals.

“From my experience, it is very easy to reach people when dealing with their animals,” said Finch. “Hopefully this will give me the opportunity to reach and help people throughout my life.”
