OSU Experiment Station in Lane to host Aug. 15 field day

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

Agricultural producers interested in exploring the latest updates regarding replacement heifer management and vegetable crop production should plan now to attend the Aug. 15 Wes Watkins Agricultural Research and Extension Center field day in Lane.

There is no cost to attend. The program will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude around 11:30 a.m.  Part of Oklahoma State University’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the experiment station is located nine miles southeast of Atoka on State Highway 3.

“This is a great opportunity to view demonstration projects in both livestock and horticulture enterprises,” said Brian Freking, OSU Cooperative Extension area livestock specialist. “Given that it is August we’re planning on finishing up before noon so as to avoid the hottest daytime temperatures.”

Roger Wann of ABS Global and Dr. Barry Whitworth, OSU Cooperative Extension veterinarian and food animal quality and health specialist, will provide the latest insights about cattle pregnancy diagnosis.

Chris Stansberry, Field and Research Service Unit superintendent with the division’s statewide Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station system, will delve into features of the genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences utilized in the heifer demonstration project.

Jim Shrefler, OSU Cooperative Extension area horticulture specialist, will lead discussions about integrated pest management and crop production practices in the station’s on-going vegetable demonstration project.

Anyone seeking additional information about the Aug. 15 field day should contact the OSU Cooperative Extension Southeast District Office by phone at 580-332-7011.
