Gardeners in the Payne County area who are looking for some new and innovative ideas for their own landscapes are invited to take part in the Annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Payne County Master Gardeners.
Slated June 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., the tour will feature a flower farm and three home gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma, said Keith Reed, horticulture educator for Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension’s Payne County office.
“The goal behind our tour is to inspire and educate area residents with new and exciting gardening possibilities,” Reed said. “This is a chance for gardeners to get some new ideas they can incorporate into their own landscapes. There will be lots of great things to see at the three home gardens and the flower farm.”
Tickets are $5 in advance and may be purchased at the Payne County OSU Cooperative Extension Office, 315 W. 6th, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Tickets also may be purchased the day of the tour at any of the home gardens for $7. All proceeds help support The Botanic Garden at OSU.
Addresses for the gardens on the tour are Bear Creek Farms, 702 E. 32nd St.; 2615 E. McElroy Rd., which will feature a woodland shade garden; 3011 W 56th St., featuring an orchid conservatory and native prairie; and 2719 S. Mar Vista, which will feature a butterfly garden and fish pond. The flower farm tour is a guided tour and begins on the hour at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Be sure to plan accordingly.
“We’re thankful to the gracious homeowners and business owner who volunteered their homes and business for our tour,” Reed said. “We’re looking forward to a great day and for participants to go back to their own homes with many new ideas for their landscapes. Our tour will provide inspiration, showcase unusual plant specimens, provide hardscaping ideas and feature wildlife habitats. There’s definitely something for all gardening interests.”
