Agricultural producers growing crops in southwestern Kansas and northwestern Oklahoma and Texas should register now to attend Oklahoma State University’s Aug. 16 McCaull Research and Demonstration Farm field day.
“Water is one of any agricultural operation’s most important resources, and wise use of water is a management tool no crop producer can do without,” said Jason Warren, OSU Cooperative Extension soil and water conservation management specialist. “Think of the field day as one-stop shopping wherein participants can pick up the latest research-based information about how to get the most of out their water resources and cropping decisions.”
The 8:30 a.m. to noon field day is free of charge and will take place at OSU’s McCaull Research and Demonstration Farm, located 30 miles northwest of Goodwell on County Rd. G and mile 13. A meal and refreshments will be provided to participants at no cost.
“We are asking participants to RSVP as it greatly helps us with our planning and ensures we have sufficient meals, refreshments and field day materials on hand,” said Cameron Murley, superintendent of OSU’s Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Goodwell.
Participants can register by email at jenni.forman@okstate.edu or by phone at 580-349-5440.
Field day sessions will be led by university experts, including Warren who will share the latest science-proven irrigation management updates.
OSU Cooperative Extension specialists Brian Arnall and Josh Lofton will lead sessions about precision nutrient management and grain sorghum varieties, respectively. Daran Rudnick, University of Nebraska-Lincoln agriculture water management specialist, will speak about irrigation tools. Approximately 60 of the region’s top corn varieties also will be featured.
“Participants also will have the opportunity to interact with industry professionals and each other,” Murley said. “You might speak with somebody who is in a similar situation to your own, and who may have ideas that may work in your own operation. The field day really will be the place to be on Friday. Think of it as an investment in ensuring your farm is operating as best it can.”
The Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service is one of two state agencies administered by OSU’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and is a key part of the university’s state and federally mandated teaching, research and Extension land-grant mission.
