The Oklahoma State University Ferguson College of Agriculture Alumni Society Board recently recognized Halston Johnson with the Early Career Achievement Award. Johnson was honored at the annual Scholarships and Awards Banquet on April 3.
Johnson, of Perryton, Texas, is a two-time graduate of the Ferguson College. She received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications in May 2013 and a master’s in international agriculture in December 2013.
While Johnson was a student at OSU, she was a member of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and Alpha Zeta professional agricultural fraternity. In addition to her campus involvement, Johnson said the relationships she developed inside and outside the classroom are among the most meaningful aspects of her college experience.
“It was incredibly beneficial to my education to work with and learn from so many like-minded people,” Johnson said. “The value of that education and the impact each and every connection had on me is unmatched and opened my mind to all of the possibilities I didn’t yet know existed.”
Johnson joined Courson Oil & Gas as a landman in 2014 and stepped into the position of vice president in 2022.
In 2024, Johnson began her career with Panhandle Drones, working to provide farmers with high-performance technology to elevate production efficiency. She currently oversees the company’s operations, advertising and social media marketing.
“Halston’s impact in the agricultural industry makes her a deserving recipient of the Early Career Achievement Award,” said Justin Anderson, president of the Ferguson College Alumni Society Board. “Her leadership reflects the values held within the Ferguson College, and we are happy to celebrate her success.”
Active in her community, Johnson serves as president of the Ochiltree General Hospital Healthcare Foundation and volunteers with the Perryton Rodeo Association. Johnson said she is passionate about participating in local organizations that allow her to advocate for agriculture and natural resources, and she enjoys promoting the Ferguson College to young adults interested in pursuing higher education in agriculture.
“I strive to be an ambassador for the Ferguson College of Agriculture each day through my actions, attitude and professionalism,” she said. “It is my hope that the way I conduct myself reflects favorably on how the college helped shape me into the businesswoman I have become.”
To Johnson, receiving the Early Career Achievement Award is an honor that recognizes not only her achievements but also the connections she built in the Ferguson College.
“I am blown away that I was considered for such an honor and put into the same category as some of the very impressive prior recipients of this award,” she said. “This award is an incredible honor to receive; however, the honor isn’t just mine. It belongs to all who stood by me and believed in my potential as both a student and a businesswoman.”
