On Sept. 27 and 28, Oklahoma State University associate theatre professor Joan Korte will appear in "The Gull," a one-woman tragicomedy adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull."

Korte, who is also the OSU director of performance, is set to perform all 10 of the show's characters when she takes to the Davis Studio Theatre stage this weekend in OSU-Stillwater's Gundersen Hall.

“As an actor, I am a storyteller,” Korte said. “In ‘The Gull,’ the audience will be introduced to 10 different characters; they will learn about all of the messy and glorious relationships the characters have with each other, not so unlike us.”

Korte’s performance of “The Gull” is in partnership with TheatreMidwest. Beyond her Stillwater performance, the project will tour Omaha, Nebraska, and the Iowa cities of Des Moines, Indianola and Amana.

“It is an honor to launch this world premiere tour at OSU,” Korte said. “I am so grateful for the support from the theatre department. This show gives me the opportunity to share my research and practice with my colleagues and students. As an actor, my work usually happens away from my home base, and it is truly a blessing to be among my community for this performance.”

TheatreMidwest is known for its practice of “Radical Hospitality,” meaning they offer free and reduced ticket prices for their productions.

“Radical Hospitality makes it so live theatre is accessible for everyone,” Korte said. “This show is easily adaptable for any space so we will tour to communities that might not have regular theatre experiences. It helps that there is one actor, five acting cubes, three chairs and one table!”

Admission to the show is free, with a recommended donation of $10 or more. Proceeds will benefit the OSU Department of Theatre. To learn more about the production and to make reservations, visit TheatreMidwest’s website.
