The Department of Theatre at Oklahoma State University will present “An Actor's Carol: One Clown's Dickensian Marathon Toward Redemption” on Dec. 5 and 6 in the Student Union Theatre.
A transformative adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, “An Actor’s Carol” will be performed by David Weber, OSU assistant professor of performance.
"The production is an athletic-paced performance that offers a new twist on this often produced, timeless and redemptive tale,” Weber said, adding that the show is punctuated by moments of clarity and hilarity from the clown's backstory.
The one-man show, which was adapted for the stage by Weber, Tim Blewitt and Zach Hilbun, pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling by incorporating elements of vaudeville, clown and mime.
"I believe a good clown reveals something very honest about themselves, and this show is about the power of that honesty,” Weber said. “It is also about redemption, restoration of the spirit and the healing power of amends."
In hopes of reaching more OSU students and faculty through theatrical storytelling, the theatre department has decided to host the performance at the centrally located Student Union. And to add to the festive spirit and experiential learning, the show will feature Christmas carols before Weber begins and will conclude with a reception and talk-back.
“An Actor's Carol” is currently on tour, having already made stops at Los Angeles’ Broadwater LA Theatre, Oklahoma Shakespeare, Georgia’s Theatre Young Harris, and The Vortex in Austin, Texas.
Admission to “An Actor’s Carol” is free, with a suggested donation of $10. Attendees can pay in advance to reserve seats at www.promontoryp.com. For more information about the production or on-going tour, contact David Weber via email at david@promontoryp.com.
