Lindsey Goedecke, a recent Spears School of Business accounting graduate who will pursue her master’s degree in accounting in 2014-15, is the recipient of one of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board scholarships awarded each year.

Goedecke will receive a $10,000 scholarship to use toward her graduate studies.

“To be nominated for the PCAOB scholarship by professors whom I respect, admire, and strive to learn from is astonishing,” Goedecke said. “Furthermore, it is a great honor to receive this scholarship and with it comes the responsibility to excel in coursework, leadership activities, and exhibit strong ethical values.

“I feel blessed to have the ability to complete my master’s degree without student loan debt; it is a phenomenal gift. Additionally, I am thankful that my mother and father will no longer feel a financial obligation to contribute financially to my higher education, especially as my undergraduate scholarships have expired,” said Goedecke, from Okmulgee, Okla.

Charlotte Wright, professor and Lanny Chasteen Chair of Accounting at the Spears School, nominated Goedecke for the national scholarship.

“We very much appreciate the PCAOB selecting the School of Accounting again this year for this honor and for giving us the opportunity to nominate Lindsey for the PCAOB scholarship. This is a significant honor for the School of Accounting and for Lindsey. She is an outstanding student and we hope this scholarship will be transformative for her,” Wright said.

The PCAOB Scholarship Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accounting degree program at accredited colleges and universities in the United States.

Goedecke already has accepted an offer to join Grant Thornton in Tulsa as an audit associate starting in the fall of 2015 after completion of her master’s degree. She is interning with the Tulsa firm this summer.

“My five long-term goals include employment as a partner at a well-respected firm, to live within my financial means, participate and lead community service projects, travel to various countries, and give my family the best future possible,” she said.
