Twelve students in Oklahoma State University’s School of Accounting received Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) scholarships for the 2024-25 school year.
The OSCPA distributed awards of $500-$4,000 to individuals from 12 in-state universities, totaling nearly $55,000. Spears School of Business students comprise nearly a third of the group of 39 scholarship winners.
“I am so pleased to see this outstanding group recognized by the OSCPA,” said Dr. Angela Spencer, head of OSU’s School of Accounting. “The School of Accounting honorees are among our best and brightest and very deserving of this support. These gifts would not be possible without the generosity of donors. With each gift, they directly contribute to the future of our profession. I'm particularly appreciative of the leadership shown by SOA alumni like Robin Byford, whose sustained contributions have been instrumental in funding these awards.”
Three OSU students were honored with named scholarships. Austin Haddock received the Robin Byford Scholarship, which distinguishes a full-time OSU accounting student. Gunnar Anderson received the OSCPA Oklahoma City Chapter Scholarship, which recognizes an accounting student at an in-state college, while Madalyn Stone won the Retha Duggan Scholarship, which gives priority to accounting master’s students.
Spears Business also led the way with nine general scholarships, the most of any participating school. OSU’s recipients are Elisabeth Allen, Karen Alvidrez Rios, Kaylen Anderson, Hailey Brunner, Hunter Combs, Emma Griffin, Kade Kosanke, Payton Lyyski and Karlie Norwood.
Students are eligible to apply for OSCPA scholarships annually beginning Nov. 1, and honorees are chosen in the summer. This year’s scholarship winners represent OSU, Cameron University, East Central University, Mid-America Christian University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City University, Oral Roberts University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa.
The OSCPA has served to advance accounting in Oklahoma for more than 100 years. Information about the OSCPA Educational Foundation is available at oscpa.com.
