OSU Marketing takes home eight awards from state contest

The University Marketing department at Oklahoma State University won eight awards
during the recent Oklahoma Collegiate Public Relations Association conference.
OSU photographer Phil Shockley won first place in the Traditional Photography category
for his cover photo of a galloping horse featured on the Center for Veterinary Health
Sciences’ Vet Cetera magazine.
Shockley also won an honorable mention in the same category for his photography of
OSU alumnus Walt Garrison, featured in STATE magazine.
Shockley and OSU graphic designer Kim Butcher won third place in the Sports Publications
category for the “OSU Baseball poster.”
Also in the Sports Publications category, Butcher won first place for the “OSU Equestrian
brochure.” She also won second place in the Larger Brochure/Flyer/Booklet category
for “Leave a Legacy” as well as third place in the Admissions Viewbook category for
the “Transfer Students Viewbook.”
In the Featurette Writing category, OSU editor Eileen Mustain won third place for
“Graham’s World, on the Surface” about English associate professor Toni Graham and
an honorable mention for “The Life (and Love) Aquatic” about two engineering graduates
who met and married at OSU and now work aboard separate military submarines.
In the Full-Length Feature Writing category, editor Janet Varnum and contributing
writer Cathryn Christensen won second place for “Sixty Years of OSU Rodeo History.”
The Oklahoma Collegiate Public Relations Association is a professional organization
for people who work in public relations, development and alumni programs at higher
education institutions in the state.
