Tuesday, January 23, 2018

The OSU Music Department Faculty Recital Series will feature pianist Heather Lanners performing works from the baroque era through the 21st century on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

An assistant professor of piano and piano pedagogy at Oklahoma State University, Lanners’ program will feature Concerto in D minor by Marcello, arranged by Bach; “Estampes” by Debussy; “Virtuoso Etudes,” based on melodies by George Gershwin and arranged by Earl Wild; “Pièces de Clavecin” by Couperin; and “Pears on a Sill” by Gregory Mertl.

Lanners has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe in both solo piano and chamber music, including professional engagements as the pianist for the Cleveland Opera on Tour, the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music String Camp, and the Holland Summer Music Sessions. Recent highlights have included solo performances at the Dublin International Piano Festival, and a performance of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the Bulgarian State Orchestra of Vidin under the direction of Maestro Christopher Haygood.

Lanners frequently serves as a judge at music competitions throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. She is currently president-elect for the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association. She is active as a guest lecturer, having presented lecture-recitals at the Eastman School of Music Summer Piano Festival and for the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Conference. Lanners has worked as the opera coach at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Akron.

Lanners has also served on the faculty of the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute and as a featured artist at the Amadeus Piano Festival in Tulsa. She teaches applied piano, piano pedagogy, and class piano at OSU.
