Around 1,200 Oklahoma State University staff members were treated to a day of fun and appreciation at the Wes Watkins Center on Tuesday.
The annual Staff Celebration Day, hosted by the Staff Advisory Council, is a chance for the university to recognize its staff's dedication and hard work.
Shaun Noll, manager of Meeting and Conference Services, donated the Wes Watkins Center after the original space, Boone Pickens Stadium, began construction.
“We’re just super thankful for everything the staff does,” Noll said. “This is what we do with meeting and conference services here at the Wes Watkins Center. We just try to find a way to make it the most efficient for the staff to come out and have a great time.”
The event featured a free Cajun-style lunch catered by Celebrations, vendor booths, games and music. Michelle Munson, SAC event chair, highlighted the importance of Staff Celebration Day.
“The goal of Staff Celebration Day is just to show how much we appreciate the staff,” Munson said. “We had over 85 donations from local businesses and vendors that wanted to tell the staff how much they appreciate them, not just what they do for OSU, but the Stillwater community.”
Kristi Wheeler, marketing and communications manager in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, echoed that sentiment.
“Oklahoma State University appreciates the staff of OSU,” said Wheeler, SAC council member. “And this is just a way to show our gratitude and appreciation for them. We couldn’t do it without the staff.”
For many staff members, Staff Celebration Day is a cherished tradition.
“Everyone in the office looks forward to Staff Celebration Day,” said Bonnie Cain-Wood, manager of Library Communication Services. “Everyone was looking forward to it. It’s one of our summer traditions.”
