Freiner named Senior of Significance

Addi Freiner, an elementary education major from Tulsa, was named a Senior of Significance by the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. The Seniors of Significance award recognizes students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU. This year 43 students representing the top one percent of the Class of 2016 includes all six OSU undergraduate colleges. 

 

Freiner holds a 3.967 GPA and will graduate with honors in May 2017.

 

Freiner founded and directed Orphan Run Stillwater that is a 5k race at OSU. The effort has raised $35,000 to build a three-block school in Uganda, Africa. She has also been involved with philanthropy efforts supporting The Wells Project, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Stillwater Humane Society, CowboyThon, Habitat for Humanity, Payne County Youth Shelter, Bless the Children Ministries, and many others.

Freiner is completing the ExCEL experiential learning program, which is an additional in-classroom semester internship for senior elementary education majors.

She has served as chapter president for Blue Key Honor Society, morale executive director of Into the Streets, second vice president of Education Student Council, a College of Education ambassador, a recruitment counselor for Panhellenic sorority recruitment, and secretary of Chi Omega fraternity just to name a few of her leadership roles.

“I was humbled to even be nominated and I am so grateful for the College of Education faculty for their support through this process and for encouraging me to apply,” Freiner said.

 

Freiner credits many others for the recognition.

 

“I love Oklahoma State University and I am so thankful for all the opportunities the University has granted me.  I know that on my own, there is no possible way I could measure up to this honor,” Freiner said. “I am truly grateful for the professors who have poured into me, the faculty who have mentored me and guided me through leadership opportunities, and for my classmates who have encouraged and challenged me the past four years. I am honored to have this opportunity to represent the College of Education because these are the people who are responsible for shaping the student I have become and the educator I will be!”

 

Interviews will be held during the spring semester as the Alumni Association selects the Outstanding Senior Award students.

 

Following graduation, Freiner plans to begin a career as an elementary educator.

“I have seen the impact a teacher can make on a child's life and I am excited to start this new adventure to strive to make a difference in the lives of my students.  I am excited to see where the Lord leads me to teach next year,” she said.
