Moghaddam Wins People’s Choice at 3MT Final Competition

Masoud Moghaddam, a Ph.D. student in Health and Human Performance, won the People’s Choice award in the 2017 Three Minute Thesis® (3MT®) final competition hosted by the Graduate College earlier this month. Moghaddam gave a three-minute presentation titled “Move Out of Your Comfort Zone: High Intensity Interval Training Delays Early Muscle Aging” and was selected by audience members as the People’s Choice winner. Masoud was awarded with a $1000 cash prize and will go on to compete in the annual President’s Fellow Three Minute Challenge (3MC) next semester. 

Moghaddam represented the College of Education, Health and Aviation in the final competition after placing first and receiving the People’s Choice award in the college-level event in October, 3MT People's Choice Award Winner Masoud Moghaddam with Dean Romans bringing his total winnings to $1600. Moghaddam’s adviser is Dr. Bert Jacobson. 

In addition, Alejandra Barrera Curiel, a Ph.D. student in Health and Human Performance, placed second in the college-level competition to win $200 with her presentation, “Relationship Between Muscle Spindles and Muscle Loss.” Dr. Jason DeFreitas serves as Curiel’s adviser. Cates Schwark, a Ph.D. student in Educational Technology, placed third and won $100 with her presentation, “Examining Self-Directed Learning in an Educational Technology Class for Pre-Service Teachers: A Qualitative Case Study.” Schwark’s adviser is Dr. Susan Stansberry.
