Shelbie Witte Recognized by Alma Mater

Dr. Shelbie Witte, the Chuck and Kim Watson Endowed Chair in the Oklahoma State University College of Education, was recently honored as a 2017 Alumni Fellow by Kansas State University, where she earned master’s and doctoral degrees.

The Fellows were chosen based on their high levels of professional accomplishment and distinguished service in their respective careers.

Witte is one of 12 distinguished alumni to receive the honor and will present guest lectures at K-State April 19-21.

Witte is an Associate Professor of Adolescent Literacy and English Education at OSU. She serves as director of the OSU Writing Project, a network site of the National Writing Project, and research director of the Initiative for 21st Century Literacies Research, an online think-tank of 21st century literacies researchers. Witte also serves as co-editor of Voices from the Middle, the middle-level publication of the National Council of Teachers of English.

Prior to Oklahoma State, Witte was an associate professor of English Education at Florida State University, as well as a middle school and high school English language arts teacher alongside the world-class teachers of Oklahoma and Kansas. She and her partner, retired Army Staff Sgt. Michael Mondoux, have two children, Kaitlin and the late Army Spc. Kevin Mondoux.

Witte earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from K-State in 2006 and a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction in 2008.
