Friday, November 30, 2018
College of Education, Health and Aviation student Shelbi Gambrell has been selected as one of Oklahoma State University’s Seniors of Significance for the 2018-2019 academic year. This award recognizes students who have excellence in scholarship, leadership and service to the campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU.
Gambrell is an elementary education major from Meeker, Oklahoma. She has been active in numerous campus activities, community service projects and leadership roles. In 2017, she founded the Letters of Gratitude project, which allows people all over the country to show appreciation for their favorite teachers by writing heartfelt letters. Gambrell is currently co-teaching second grade at Westwood Elementary in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as part of the Excellence in Collaborative and Experiential Learning (ExCEL) program.
“Shelbi has established herself as an outstanding scholar during her time at OSU,” said John Romans, dean of the College of Education, Health and Aviation. “She has shown great poise and leadership in advocating for our college, and her passion and excitement for education is evident in all that she does. I have great hope for the future of the teaching profession given Shelbi’s contributions at this early stage of her career.”
All 44 winners, who represent the top one perfect of their graduating class, were recognized during a public reception on November 29. The Outstanding Seniors will be selected from this group by the OSU Alumni Association Student Awards and Selection Committee in the spring.
