The Oklahoma State University chapter of the Mortar Board honor society recently named students to its annual list of Top 20 Freshmen Men and Top 20 Freshmen Women, as well as Top 10 Freshmen Men and Women for the 2021-22 class.

The College of Education and Human Sciences was well-represented, with 11 Top 20 women and three in the Top 20 men; all three men earned Top 10 recognition, along with seven women.

Students selected for the honor are chosen based on scholarship, outstanding leadership and community service. Students apply in their sophomore year based on achievements during their first year in college.

“Ever since I was a little boy, I've wanted to be an aviator and dreamt of the day I would be a pilot,” said Josh Stephens, aerospace administration and operations professional pilot student.

“At OSU, I went from being the boy with his head in the clouds to the boy flying in the clouds. My passion for service flourished throughout freshman year with my involvement on and off campus. I was extremely intentional with how my time was spent because I wanted everything I did to serve others in some way.”

Nutritional sciences student Molly Moore shared what an honor it is to have received a Top 10 Freshman award.

“This is an honor that I will always remember,” said Moore. “OSU has truly become a family to me and I am so thankful for my time here.I am so grateful for the support, encouragement and love I have felt from everyone at OSU.”

Top 10 and Top 20 students were celebrated with a reception in honor of their achievement in addition to being highlighted by Mortar Board.
