Dr. Raman P. Singh, associate dean for the OSU College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, and Dr. Hongyu Wang, professor of teaching, learning and educational sciences, were honored with OSU-Tulsa’s faculty service awards at a Welcome Back reception on Friday. The awards are OSU-Tulsa’s highest honors for faculty.
Singh, who is also professor and head of the OSU School of Materials Science and Engineering and director of the OSU-Tulsa Helmerich Research Center, received the 2019 OSU-Tulsa President's Outstanding Research Award.
His research interests include composites, experimental mechanics, mechanics of advanced materials, and sustainable production of energy from unconventional resources.
He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India and his master's and doctorate degrees at the University of Rhode Island. Earlier this year, Singh testified before a U.S. House Energy subcommittee on the continued safe and sustainable development of oil and gas resources and the energy–water nexus.
Singh's prolific research ranges from recycling scrap tires and carpet to radiation shielding. He joined OSU as associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in 2006 following several years on the faculty of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has been associate technical editor of Experimental Mechanics since 2004.
In addition, Singh is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Experimental Mechanics. He also serves on the executive board of the Society of Experimental Mechanics.
Wang is the recipient of the 2019 OSU-Tulsa President's Outstanding Teaching Award. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northeast Normal University in China and East China Normal University, respectively, and her doctorate from Louisiana State University.
Since joining the OSU faculty in 2001, Wang has developed a national and international reputation in the field of curriculum studies, particularly in the research area of curriculum theory, international curriculum dialogues, social justice education, East/West inquiry and nonviolence curriculum.
Her research publication and presentation record is extensive in both Chinese and English. Her co-edited book, ‘Cross-cultural Studies in Curriculum, Eastern Thought, Educational Insights,’ won the Outstanding Book Recognition award from the American Educational Studies Association. Her journal article, ‘A Nonviolent Approach to Social Justice Education’ was the most read article in the year after its publication.
As part of her Multicultural and Diversity Issues in Curriculum course, Wang includes teachings about the Tulsa Race Massacre. Some of her students’ writings have been published in the book, “Journey to Unlearn and Learn in Cultural Education.”
Among other honors, Wang is the previous recipient of the Outstanding Book Recognition Award by the American Educational Research Association, the Critics’ Choice Book Award by the American Educational Studies Association and the 2006 OSU Regents Distinguished Research Award.
Wang is also the recipient of the 2018 OSU-Tulsa President's Outstanding Research Award.
