The Oklahoma State University College of Education and Human Sciences hosted a celebration in honor of the late Nancy Randolph Davis, the first African American to enroll at what was then Oklahoma A&M College in 1949.
Three more Oklahoma State University campus buildings recently earned the $1 Million Energy Reduction Award. Nancy Randolph Davis, Nancy Randolph Davis West and the OSU Athletic Center, which includes Gallagher Iba Arena, bring the total to 15 buildings that have received the designation.
In 1949, Nancy Randolph Davis lit the pathway for future generations on the Oklahoma State University campus as the first African American student at OSU. More than 70 years later, a candle-lighting celebrating her legacy was held Feb. 1.
The 2007 “Nancy Randolph Davis Day at OSU” will include another tribute to the civil rights pioneer and longtime Oklahoma City educator with the debut of the Nancy Randolph Davis Symposium on Higher Education.
Oklahoma State University’s Black History Month observance will begin Wednesday with a 2 p.m. celebration honoring one of the university’s foremost civil rights pioneers.
