Oklahoma State Women’s Rodeo Team named Central Plains Region Champions

Thundering hooves, split-second timing and the cheers of appreciative fans were in full force as Oklahoma State University’s Women’s Rodeo Team earned the Central Plains Region championship, securing them a trip to the College National Finals Rodeo.

The CNFR takes place in Casper, Wyoming, June 9-15, 2019. The women’s rodeo team will compete against the champion teams from 11 regions across the nation.

“I’m proud of our women’s rodeo team” said Cody Hollingsworth, OSU rodeo program coordinator and coach. “They worked hard all year long, and it has been really fun to be part of the experience. The OSU Rodeo Team provides an opportunity for students to continue to grow in the sport and gain a top-notch education.”

Hollingsworth has been the rodeo coach for seven years and has taken several competitors to the national finals, but this will be his first time to take a team to the CNFR.

“Our ultimate goal is to win the team title, and I believe our team members have the talent to do well at the CNFR,” Hollingsworth said.

Team members include: Skylar Eagles, Cara Jolly, Kenna McNeill and Kynzie McNeill.

Kenna McNeill, freshman animal science major from Hobbs, New Mexico, was named the Central Plains Region All-Around Women’s Champion which qualifies her to compete in barrel racing and goat tying at the national finals.

Kynzie McNeill, assistant coach and animal science graduate student, also from Hobbs, New Mexico, clinched the champion barrel racing title which qualifies her to compete in that event at the CNFR.

Cara Jolly, agricultural communications graduate student from Deer Trail, Colorado, will compete in barrel racing.

Skylar Eagles, international agriculture graduate student from Center, Colorado, will represent OSU in breakaway roping at the CNFR.

The OSU Rodeo Team is part of the university’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The team has been a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association since 1948 and competes in the Central Plains Region. For more information, visit rodeo.okstate.edu.
