Friday, February 26, 2016
Oklahoma State University was recently ranked No. 31 nationally for the top alma maters for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT). OSU, which has 567 alumni who have achieved certification, has the highest number among universities in Oklahoma.
The list of the top 50 alma maters was compiled by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (www.nbpts.org) and a full list available here: http://www.nbpts.org/sites/default/files/certification_2015/2015_ihes_all_nbcts.pdf
Two other universities in Oklahoma appear on the top-50 list – Northeastern Oklahoma State University (40) and the University of Central Oklahoma (41).
To date, more than 112,000 teachers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have achieved National Board Certification.
According to the National Board for Professional Teaching standards, research shows that the students of board-certified teachers learn more than students in other classrooms, which is why many states and districts offer incentives for teachers to pursue board certification.
