English Education Students Awarded for Excellence
Monday, March 12, 2018
Two College of Education, Health and Aviation students were recently presented the Geraldine Burns Award for Excellence in English Studies. Jon Chuning, an OSU graduate in English education and Dillon Graham, a senior in English education are two of 12 winners to receive the award from the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English (OKCTE).
“The award is one way English education programs can recognize outstanding future teachers. Both Jon and Dillon exemplify the very best that OSU has to offer. Any Oklahoma middle school or high school would be lucky to have them as English teachers,” said Shelbie Witte, associate professor of Engiish education/adolescent literacy in the School of Teaching, Learning and Educational Sciences.
Institutions of higher education nominated the best English teacher in their program from the 2,200 teachers graduating from Oklahoma universities in 2018. The Geraldine Burns Award is given to excellent teacher interns; winners receive free OKCTE membership and the opportunity to speak at the fall conference.
