It’s why he went into teaching. “I had a number of influential teachers and coaches in my life who made me understand that I was important and that I could do anything, even at times when I did not necessarily feel that way about myself,” Ratcliff said. “I want to be that person for someone else. I want to inspire, challenge and empower the students I come across.”

Shedding light on local history: Teaching about the Tulsa Race Massacre

Local teachers got some much-needed information and resources to help them teach their students about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, perhaps the darkest time in the city’s history. Nearly 20 teachers from Bartlesville, Glenpool, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Union and other school districts took part in “Writing and Remembrance: Strategies for Teaching the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre” June 11-13 at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa.
