OSU receives $2M EPA grant to research enhanced aquifer recharge

On Sept. 21, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that Oklahoma State University geology professor Dr. Todd Halihan, is the recipient of a nearly $2 million research grant to study the use and risks of enhanced aquifer recharge (EAR) to improve groundwater availability and quality. Along with his team of researchers at OSU, Halihan will collaborate with the Oka’ Institute at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and Texas State University in San Marcos, to develop innovative monitoring and analysis strategies for rural EAR structures.

Four CAS members become faculty fellows to aid new strategic plan

Geology’s Dr. Jack Pashin promoted to Regents Professor

Dr. Jack Pashin, a professor in Boone Pickens School of Geology (BPSoG), was recently promoted to Regents Professor. Pashin, who earned his Ph.D. in geological sciences from the University of Kentucky, joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University in 2013 as the Devon Chair of Basin Research for BPSoG.

Geology students receive awards at Geoscience Foundation of Tulsa banquet

On April 20, four OSU geology students were recognized by the Geoscience Foundation of Tulsa for their dedication and perseverance in their field of study. Oklahoma State University welcomed more than 200 groundwater professionals to Stillwater on Jan. 4 and 5 for the annual Oklahoma Ground Water Association (OGWA) Conference and Trade Show. This was the second year OSU hosted the event, which provides continuing education opportunities and a chance for attendees to connect on Oklahoma groundwater issues.

Kyla Donell Coker has always been fascinated by rocks and jewelry. As a young child, if she wasn’t trying on her mother’s and grandmother’s jewelry, she was asking questions about the rock formations they passed on family trips to Angel Fire, New Mexico. Those who knew her were not surprised that she graduated from OSU with a geology degree in 2004.
