Looking out at the thousands of American flags on the Oklahoma State University Library Lawn is a shocking sight. Even more shocking is the knowledge that each flag represents an actual person, a veteran who gave their life for their country.
The Cowboys for Veterans bag program will host its drop-off event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 7 in the upper North Plaza of the Student Union at Oklahoma State University.
When Emerson Newell partnered with Oklahoma State University on the Christmas bag program she and her family had been working on for years, she figured 800 bags was a solid number. That number was surpassed in one day as nearly 1,000 of the more than 1,400 Christmas bags that will be sent to veterans was dropped off on Dec. 1
The Student Veteran Success Center, now located at 061 Student Union, is a dedicated space for veterans to relax, study and build community. Plus: Cowboys for Veterans initiative will collect 800 Christmas bags for veterans.
Every year, during the week of Veterans Day, OSU’s Office of Student Veterans Success has volunteers place the flags and dog tags on the lawn in front of Edmon Low Library.
When veterans leave the service and look to begin a career, Oklahoma State University has continued to be an institution that will get them started. On Tuesday, OSU was named a Veteran Employer Champion in a Zoom ceremony by the City of Tulsa, Tulsa’s Community Service Council and the Oklahoma Veteran Alliance.
