Dr. Rosemary Avance, an assistant professor in the School of Media and Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University, recently performed a groundbreaking study for the Oklahoma Media Center alongside University of Oklahoma professor Dr. Allyson Shortle. Avance and Shortle designed, implemented and executed a qualitative observational study on Oklahoma news deserts, or areas where residents have limited to no access to reliable local journalism. Their extensive research explored whether Oklahomans are receiving local news, which provides information necessary for residents to engage with and make informed decisions about their communities.

CAS faculty receive NSF grant for multidisciplinary COVID-19 and pandemic research

Six Oklahoma State University professors from a variety of backgrounds are combining their talents to research stopping future pandemics. Faculty members from OSU’s College of Arts and Sciences were recently awarded a $500,000 National Science Foundation grant to conduct multidisciplinary research and model the effects of COVID-19 in Oklahoma to plan effective mitigation efforts for the coronavirus and potential future pandemics.

The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes students who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships; and work ethic during their time at OSU.
