Graham sees science and art in dentistry

Caroline Graham decided she wanted to be a researcher as a young girl. She was inspired by a National Geographic article about the study of microbes in the ice of Antarctica. The recent Oklahoma State University graduate is headed to the University of Oklahoma’s College of Dentistry. She completed an Honors College degree in May with a double major in microbiology/cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry, along with minors in chemistry and accounting. Among the many awards she earned were College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Seniors and recognition among the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors.

Fry worked hard to enjoy all of the OSU experience

It was natural for Emily Fry to become a scholar at Oklahoma State University, where her parents are both leaders. Her mother, Pamela, is OSU-Tulsa's president. Her father, Don, is director of technology for the College of Education, Health and Aviation. Fry recently completed her biological science/pre-health degree, earning significant honors for her accomplishments, including recognition as one of the OSU Alumni Association’s 15 Outstanding Seniors and as a College of Arts and Sciences Top 10 Senior.

Bruck earns Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and Course Hero have named an Oklahoma State University professor as one of eight emerging leaders in their field who are on a trajectory to help students grow into thought leaders and innovators of tomorrow. Jason Bruck, an animal behaviorist specializing in marine mammal communication and cognition, is a teaching assistant professor in the Department of Integrative Biology.

Phi Beta Kappa inducts alumnus, 31 students

The Phi Beta Kappa chapter at Oklahoma State University initiated 31 new student members and alumnus Christopher Lehman during its seventh annual induction ceremony recently in the Student Union Ballroom. The honor society's Gamma of Oklahoma chapter was founded in 2013.

Mapping new directions: Cartography Services manager builds program success

Michael Larson’s interest in geography began when he was an engineering major enrolled in a general education summer class. “World Regional Geography really opened up the world for me,” Larson said. “It was the first textbook I ever read cover to cover. It was fascinating, and it showed me a different direction that I could go. I had taken drafting courses for engineering. I found that drafting work also fit well with a geography degree. And that was pretty much it.”

As an aspiring film director, Amairani Perez Chamu made a deliberate choice to enroll in the American studies program at Oklahoma State University — Tulsa. “It is really about society, culture, politics; the backbone of America,” said Perez, an immigrant from Mexico who was recently named one of 15 Outstanding Seniors by the OSU Alumni Association. “I thought it would be a good degree option in learning about what makes America, America.”

Rios passionate about helping others

Alma Rios was a Sooner fan until her brother came to Oklahoma State University. “I visited my brother here when he was awarded the Top 10 Freshmen,” Rios said. “That was my first time on campus, and everybody was just so kind and inviting.” That’s when Rios met Lee Bird, the now-retired vice president of student affairs who inspired her to apply to OSU.
