Teacher outreach around the world

Even as COVID concerns cause travel restrictions, faculty in the Oklahoma State University College of Education and Human Sciences are using technology to connect with teachers around the world through two outreach programs.

Shawna Hight graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and in 2017 with a Master of Science in Teaching, Learning and Leadership, option in reading and literacy. A seven-year teaching veteran, Hight currently teaches fifth-grade language arts and social studies at Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy in Tulsa, Okla.

National Writing Project Teacher Leaders Head Back to School

During summer break, more than 3,000 teachers worked face-to-face and in online communities to share and learn new ways to teach writing, engage colleagues and enhance their leadership.

As the Kim and Chuck Watson Endowed Chair, Dr. Shelbie Witte, professor of English education and adolescent literacy, is maximizing opportunities and leaving her mark on literacy education. Witte is one of 18 faculty members who hold an endowed position within the College of Education, Health and Aviation thanks to the support of generous donors. In the era of tightening budgets, these positions have become more valuable than ever in allowing faculty to enhance their teaching, research and special projects.
