OSU integrative biology team uses machine learning in newly published Ebola virus research

A team of researchers led by Oklahoma State University integrative biology assistant professor Patrick Stephens, Ph.D., recently unveiled critical insights into the transmission of the Ebola virus. The research team, which also included researchers from the University of Georgia and the Cary Institute of Ecosystems Studies, published the first comprehensive study of the potential host range of Ebola viruses including every mammal species in Africa. This study was led by Dr. Mekala Sundaram, who was a postdoctoral scholar in the Stephens lab at OSU when it was published.

Six Oklahoma State University professors from a variety of backgrounds are combining their talents to research stopping future pandemics. Faculty members from OSU’s College of Arts and Sciences were recently awarded a $500,000 National Science Foundation grant to conduct multidisciplinary research and model the effects of COVID-19 in Oklahoma to plan effective mitigation efforts for the coronavirus and potential future pandemics.

OSU receives NSF grant to host research mentor program for recent biology grads

Thanks to a $2.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation, Oklahoma State University will be home to a three-year program to mentor recent college graduates with biology degrees. The NSF Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates in Biological Sciences (RaMP) program will begin at OSU in June 2023 with an initial class of eight mentees, who will spend the year researching and training in professional skills.
