OSU dedicates Frank Eaton monument sculpted by Harold Holden
Oklahoma State University dedicated a monument of Frank “Pistol Pete” Eaton on Friday. The monument is the final work produced by artist Harold Holden after his recent passing in 2023.
Pistol Pete alumni swore in the two latest members of their Oklahoma State University mascot fraternity on Sept. 2 in the ConocoPhillips Alumni Center at the spurs ceremony.
When Frank Eaton joined Stillwater’s Armistice Day parade in 1923, it marked the beginning of a storied tradition that would later see Oklahoma State University redefine itself through Eaton’s image in the form of a mascot that is today as beloved as it is recognizable — Pistol Pete.
On Nov. 1, 1958, thousands of OSU alumni, family and friends gathered at Lewis Field for the homecoming game against Army. It was the first homecoming under the newly named Oklahoma State University and a first for what has become one of the greatest mascot traditions in the United States.
