Oklahoma State University junior Meg Jackson has been named a finalist for the 2023 Truman Scholarship, a highly competitive graduate scholarship for aspiring public service leaders in the United States.

OSU graphic design students’ capstone exhibition opens at the Gardiner Gallery

The 2023 Oklahoma State University graphic design BFA capstone exhibition Threshold opened Wednesday, March 1, at the Gardiner Gallery of Art in the Bartlett Center on OSU’s Stillwater campus. The exhibition presents work by 30 graduating seniors, with featured pieces representing a culmination of students’ artistic development achieved through years of experimentation, research and critical thinking.

Computer science student creates mobile app for Lake McMurtry

Want to visit Lake McMurtry but don’t know where to start? Oklahoma State University student Chrisantus Eze has an app for that. Eze, a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science, began working with the nonprofit Lake McMurtry Friends in spring 2022 to develop a mobile app to aid lake visitors. As of this month, it’s available for both Android and iOS devices.

OSU hosts state groundwater conference for second year, promoting crucial industry

Oklahoma State University welcomed more than 200 groundwater professionals to Stillwater on Jan. 4 and 5 for the annual Oklahoma Ground Water Association (OGWA) Conference and Trade Show. This was the second year OSU hosted the event, which provides continuing education opportunities and a chance for attendees to connect on Oklahoma groundwater issues.

Japanese artist Manami Ishimura exhibition set to open at OSU Gardiner Gallery of Art

An exhibition of works by Japanese artist Manami Ishimura opens Jan. 19 at the Gardiner Gallery of Art in the Bartlett Center on Oklahoma State University’s Stillwater campus. The exhibition, titled “Ripple,” includes three large sculptural works made of PETG plastic using a 3D pen and monofilament.

OSU Ethics Bowl Team wins regional competition, qualifies for nationals

Oklahoma State University’s Ethics Bowl Team won the regional competition at Texas A&M University-San Antonio on November 12 and qualified for the national competition on March 4-5 in Portland, Oregon. The team has maintained recent success, as this marks the third year in a row that the team has won regionals and the fourth out of five years they’ve qualified for the national competition. Two years ago, the team placed in the top eight in the nation.

Borunda, Leffingwell appointed to College of Arts and Sciences leadership team

Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences recently announced two new additions to its leadership team. Dr. Mario Borunda from the Department of Physics was named associate dean and senior inclusion officer in November, replacing Dr. Craig Freeman, who took a position at OSU-Tulsa. Dr. Thad Leffingwell from the Department of Psychology was named associate dean for facilities in December. Dr. Kristen Baum had previously been fulfilling duties associated with the position in addition to her responsibilities as associate dean for research.

Jacek Tyminski honors former professor with Richard C. Powell Graduate Fellowship

Dr. Jacek Tyminski was all alone in 1979, having traveled more than 5,000 miles from Elblag, Poland, to Stillwater. He was a refugee, coming to OSU to pursue his Ph.D. because of deteriorating conditions in his home country. Arriving at Oklahoma State University, he felt completely disoriented, with no connections and no direction. But thanks to the kindness of physics professor Dr. Richard Powell, Tyminski soon found a family.

ROTC cadets make history as first female infantry officers from OSU

Two Army ROTC graduates made history this spring as the first female cadets from the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Battalion to be selected as infantry officers upon their graduation from OSU. Keona Tidwell and Madeline Sloniker graduated in May, and are now heading to Fort Benning, Georgia, to attend the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course (IBOLC). Once they graduate IBOLC, they will officially be the first female infantry officers to come from OSU’s Army ROTC program.
