Shrum’s inaugural commencement marks return to Gallagher-Iba Arena

President Kayse Shrum last walked across the stage in 1998 and now she will be the one giving out the degrees. Dr. Shrum, who became Oklahoma State University’s president on July 1, has already accomplished a number of firsts in her role, but on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, she will preside over her first commencement ceremonies.

OSU first school in state with bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language

This fall, OSU received approval to make its American Sign Language (ASL) major into a bachelor’s degree program, which is crucial for students who want to learn interpreting and also teach ASL nationwide. ASL was previously only offered as a minor.

OSU Museum of Art welcomes ‘Native American Veteran Artists’ show

The OSU Museum of Art unveiled a three-piece installation on Oct. 30 that features works by Native American veteran artists. The mini-vault show, which opened on the eve of Native American Heritage Month, was curated by OSU art history student and museum intern Sam Holguin.

College honors Lou Watkins with a Hall of Fame induction

Lou Watkins’ connections to Oklahoma State University run deep. She is a two-time graduate of the university, past member and chair of the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents and even met her husband of 57 years, former state senator and U.S. Rep. Wes Watkins, at the OSU library. Most recently, Watkins was inducted into the 2021 OSU College of Education and Human Sciences Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed by the college. The recognition celebrates her lifelong commitment to empowering others through education and public service and honors her significant contributions to the college and the university.

OSU English professor receives $250,000 grant for writing software
