Six College of Arts and Sciences students named Niblack Scholars

Greenwood School of Music to welcome Warner Music executive for public Q&A

On Friday, Nov. 18, the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music (GSM) will welcome home Oklahoma State University alumnus and Warner Music Nashville Executive Vice President of A&R Scott Hendricks to its Recital Hall. Hendricks plans to pull back the curtain on the country music business and participate in a Q&A session with music industry students and the public.

OSU psychologist finds an aversion to swearing may lead to incorrect word pronunciation

A new study by Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Sarah Kucker and the University of Miami’s Dr. Lynn Perry examined how socially taboo words change how we say new words. In the study, participants read aloud made-up words that were spelled to either rhyme with a swear word, such as “kuck,” or rhyme with a neutral word, like “wug” rhyming with “rug”.

The National Television Academy recently announced the winners of its News and Documentary Emmy Awards, and Oklahoma State University alumna Maddy Cunningham was on the list. Cunningham, who graduated with degrees in multimedia journalism and theatre in 2016, was a field producer for the 20/20 episode “The Babies of 9/11: Twenty Years Later.” On Sept. 29, she and her colleagues were awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Soft Feature Story: Long Form.

OSU psychology professor advances novel theory about moral judgment

Dr. Daniel Sznycer, an assistant professor in Oklahoma State University’s Department of Psychology, recently published research on moral judgment in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. “This paper shows the first proof that dilemmas trigger a well-designed cognitive system for making tradeoffs between conflicting moral values,” Sznycer said.
