The Oklahoma State University Greenwood School of Music's First Lady of OSU Concert at The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts Main Performance Hall will feature Professor Steven Sanders. Tickets can be reserved online at music.okstate.edu, at McKnightCenter.org, or at the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts Box Office. The Box Office can be reached at (405) 744-9999. Director of Bands leaving a decades-long legacy of learning

After 40 years of collegiate teaching and conducting, Joseph Missal will wrap up that career in May with his retirement from OSU. And to cap it off, he’s being inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society Hall of Fame. The formal, in-person ceremony will be rescheduled from its original November date due to COVID-19 restrictions.

OSU Opera presents The Wonderful World of Sondheim

The Oklahoma State University Opera will present The Wonderful World of Sondheim, featuring musical selections by Stephen Sondheim, on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall in Stillwater. The cast is comprised of students from the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music and the Department of Theatre. Admission is free. OSU researcher awarded NIH fellowship to study psychology of weight stigma

OSU doctoral student Natalie Keirns has spent countless hours studying the psychology of weight stigma. Last month, she was awarded a prestigious fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, and now she’s looking to build on her work and continue to combat obesity-related disease from the perspective of a clinical psychologist.

From physiology to endocrinology: A doctor's career journey

Dr. Erik Aspenson's career as an endocrinologist began at OSU more than 30 years ago when he earned his bachelor's degree in physiology. After attending medical school and serving 11 years with the U.S. Air Force, the father of four turned his focus to treating patients with diabetes and thyroid disease — something he's done in the Tulsa area for the past 15 years. Aspenson gave us a look into his life and career, including what drew him to OSU as an incoming freshman, the unique way he starts each day and what it means to be a Cowboy.

Blazing paths for the under-represented

Gloria Valencia-Weber’s storied career has centered around Native Americans and law, with punctuating milestones in education and advocacy. Her resume includes degrees from OSU (B.A. in English, M.A. in speech communication) and Harvard Law School, the formal establishment of the ACLU of Oklahoma, creating the first Indian Law Certificate Program in the U.S. while working at the University of Tulsa, teaching at the University of New Mexico School of Law for more than 20 years, and being appointed to the Legal Services Corporation board of directors by President Obama in 2010.

Music major to microbrewery owner

Craig Wensell graduated from Oklahoma State in 1998 with a music performance degree before embarking on a journey that included a master’s in music performance, teaching at both the high school and collegiate level, and a tour with the Army in Afghanistan. Upon returning from Afghanistan, Wensell decided to go into home-brewing and has since started two successful businesses.

Freemasons give CDIS clinic $283K in renewed funding

The Guthrie Scottish Rite of Freemasonry recently renewed its partnership with OSU’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders by donating $283,574 to the OSU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. The partnership began in 2018 when the Guthrie Scottish Rite Foundation moved its speech and language clinic operations to Stillwater’s campus and gave an initial $182,411 to the department.
