The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry was awarded a $500,000 grant by the United States Department of Agriculture to study mental health conditions of farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma, as well as develop ways to assist rural Oklahomans struggling with their mental health. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture has partnered with OSU Center for Health Sciences and OSU Extension to spearhead this initiative.

OSU, OU scientists collaborate to sequence, map new genome

A team of researchers from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma published a genome sequence and chromosome map for the micro-crustacean Daphnia pulicaria. Researchers in the laboratory of Punidan Jeyasingh in OSU’s Department of Integrative Biology, in collaboration with the laboratory of OU biology professor Lawrence Weider, led the efforts. The results of their work were published in the journal Molecular Ecology.

Chemistry professor earns $2.2 million grant for COVID-19 research

Dr. Martin McCullagh is a computational chemist, and his research focuses on modeling molecules, particularly biomolecules like proteins and peptides, to learn how they function. Partnering with two researchers from Colorado State University, McCullagh has earned a $2.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study a protein in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19.

IMLS Grant Supports Library Pandemic Reflections Project

The Oklahoma State University Library recently received a federal award for nearly $50,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ American Rescue Plan grant program. The grant will fund the Library’s oral history project titled “Impressions from the Pandemic: Oklahomans Reflect on COVID-19,” and was one of only five awards made to Oklahoma organizations out of the 390 total awards from this program.
